DUNGEON MASTER'S SECTION

This is interesting:  I had 2 players, both 4th level, who destroyed an adult red dragon with 1 first level priest spell and 1 strike from a sword.  The priestess cast "command" with the instruction to die.  The dragon failed the magic resistance and failed the saving throw with a roll of 1.  That made him comatose for 1 round.  There was no other fighting going on and no one to help him.  Under that rule in the various combat sections of the PHB and DMG, death can be instant (a death blow).  That is exactly what the fighter did...drove his sword through the dragon's brain (the dragon was in human form). 22,000 experience split 2 ways for that 15 second fight.  The dragon had already spoke to them in common so it understood the command.  Perfectly legit according to the rules of AD&D!  DM's watch out for "experience pumps" such as that...

I would like to address some additions that I have incorporated into my game.  These are new armors and weapons that have proven useful and fun for the characters to have a greater variety for individuality.

NEW ARMOR:
Lightscale- AC 7, made of leather scales instead of metal.  Same properties as leather armor but with better protection.
Plated leather- AC 6, leather armor with metallic breast & ab plates installed.
Studded ringmail- AC 5, combines studded leather overlapped with ringmail.
Improved chainmail- AC 4, the chain links are closer together and thus offers better protection.
Silenced chainmail- AC 5, the chain links are interwoven with strips of leather to reduce noise.
Mail & plate- AC 4, chainmail combined with a breast/back plate from platemail.

NEW WEAPONS:
Shodstaff- quarterstaff with the ends wrapped in steel. Damage is increased to 1d8/1d8. Speed factor stays the same.
Military (superior) pick- large, 2 handed style pick. Damage is 1d8/1d10, speed factor of 6.
Military (superior) flail- large, 2 handed style morning flail with multiple head attachments. Base damage is 1d8/1d10 with an additional +2 to damage per head attachment (maximum of 3 heads for 1d8+4/1d10+4).  Speed factor base is 7 with a +1 per additional head (3 headed flail would be speed factor 9).  Length is 2 foot shaft with up to 3 feet of chain extensions per head.

OPTIONAL RULES:
Size large is considered 7'1'' or taller. The DMG also states that things that are large, huge, or gargantuan get a strength bonus.
Humans lack racial benefits compared to infravision, resistances, long lives, etc. I allow human characters to be large (over 7' tall) and give them a +1 to strength (possibility of 19 str).  Large characters can also wield weapons that are the same size or smaller than them in 1 hand (unless physics dictates otherwise).  An example of this would be a large warrior using twin 2 handed swords with a 2 weapon fighting style. Perfectly legit! However, using a bow with only one hand is no a possibility.
